What Obama Means To Me
During the toddler days of Mr. Obama, African-Americans didn't even have the right to vote. Four years ago, most people didn't even know who Barack Obama was. I read a book entitled "Letters To A Young Brother: Manifest Your Destiny," by actor Hill Harper. He went to law school with President Obama, and in this book, he stated that Barack Obama could potentially be our first Black President. This book was written during the time President Obama was Senator of Illinois.
Last Sunday, Pastor's sermon subject was "What it takes to change things." He referenced Ezra 7:1-10, and gave 5 points from that text. I'm not going to go in to the text, you can read that on your own. The 1st point was to remember where you came from. It's hard to go forward if you don't know where you have been. Secondly, you have to have skills. It's important to always sharpen that axe to keep advancing through life. Third, you have to be anointed. Anointed means chosen by or as if by divine intervention. The fourth point he made is that you have to build a team. You need to have good solid helpers in order to change things. The last point he made is timing. The timing has to be right.
So I say all that to say this. My time has come. Your time has come. Our time has come. It doesn't matter where you have come from. Be motivated by your circumstances, and participate in your own rescue. Stephen Covey informed me that applied knowledge is power. There are so many resources out there that anyone can take advantage of and grow and develop the skills necessary to go from good to great. Associate yourself around individuals who will support in your growth and not be a dream stealer. Having a strong team of people who want to be better is a key factor and helping you find your sole purpose for being here. We are not here to live in mediocrity. Matthew 10:10 says that He has come so that we can have life of abundance. He has provided us everything we needed to have it. So why aren't we?
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fearis that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your small playing doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so small that other people won't fee insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone.
As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
-Marianne Williamson, Return to Love
"Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America." -Barack Obama, 2009 Inauguaration Address
Barack Obama inspired me, and should have inspired all about the possibilities that this incredible country provides to us. If you don't believe anything is possible, read his story.
I have gone through a full life change over the last quarter. I'm still trying to adjust to this new life I have been given. I'm searching and finding that there are not only blessings in the storm, but we are placed on these paths for the purpose that which we are given. I thank God for the process that he has bestowed upon me. I know I haven't been giving my full potential. I apologize to all that have been affected. It's now time for me to pick myself up, dust myself off, and begin again the work of going from good to great. People see what I have been doing so far and are impressed. They don't know the background of where I have come from. They have yet to see the skills that I possess. I, myself, am still learning to apply the skills that I possess. People have no idea the network that I have built. They have only seen a small piece. I now know what I have been anointed to do. It's clear to me. I was scared at first, but I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Phillipians 4:13). I'm ready. I willing. I've been able, but didn't realize it until now. Thank you, Mr. President, for waking me up. The game is over. Play time is finished. You haven't seen nothing yet. Going from good to great is only the beginning. Life is about to be extraordinary. Watch what is about to happen . . . . . . . .
